Curved Smocking III: Design-A-Plate

Class Description:
The course builds on the knowledge and techniques taught in Curved Smocking I and II. I will review the fundamentals of curved smocking and the structure of various smocked curves. Then we will examine a number of published geometric smocking designs for analysis of content-- borders, central motif, shapes, all-over design, embellishments, use of backsmocking, and use of unsmocked space. The student will then design and graph an original design using curved smocking.
